There is a‘timeless’ feel within this tiny little hamlet, making it easy to fall in love with it instantly.

What’s on offer here is mild weather throughout the year, friendly locals, good food, a little pebble beach, a pleasant lake-front walk and wonderful wildlife!

With three resident swans, lots of ducks, coots, goosanders and three herons, its a already colourful however, more intriguing than this, Cerro actually has its own ‘mascots’  by means of geese!

The larger goose, known locally as Gwendolena, along with her new mate (arriving mid 2019) are really quite a pair of comedians! They waddle wing to wing along the lakeside like an old couple, always hungry for leftovers! Admittedly, they do hiss, honk and chase after the odd person or two, yet they add a unique charm, even if you do glance behind you now and then!

Gwendolena the goose has even featured in the Varese local newspaper – so she really has fame!

There’s a bar/pizzeria nestled at the foot of the lake front offering breakfast, lunches and of course pizza, during the summer they hold music events. They’re frequented daily by the residents of Cerro, so you do get a complete hands on Italian experience.

Seasonally there’s an elegant bistro opening daily from March to October for al fresco dining by the lake. Cerro hamlet also has a church, a little grocery store, a clothes shop (it may still be selling fashion from the 1960’s), a sailing club and a few steps away from the lake there’s a second bar which offers breakfast, lunch and fantastic aperitifs, and next door to that there is a newsagents.

A visit to The International Museum of Ceramic Design found in the centre of the hamlet, is a dedicated museum which has hosted thousands of potters, including some of international fame, who have created beautiful objects intended for everyday use and refined artistic products of high quality.

Combine all this with a visit to The Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso.
