The Space

Our waterfront villas at La Foleia offer two iconic types of accommodation. From Villa Padiglione’s grand frescoes, warming fireplace and sweeping views to Villa Ottagonale’s intriguing salon, marble wanders and dreamy glasshouse; expect to be awestruck at La Foleia.

Villa Padiglione is a neoclassical pavilion, with large windows that open onto a stairway that accompany you into the lake.

La Foleia is a special, recently renovated destination. “Foleia” is the latin word for “follia” which translates into folly, madness. It was first imagined, then realised with art, courage and determination. Once an oak forest, it became a property with a 4000 sqm circle of water filled with a private, natural spring from the Ticino river. On the lake’s two opposite shores are two mirrored houses; one has an octagonal plan, with French windows that frame the water and the statues that adorn its edges from the living room. The other, a neoclassical pavilion, with large windows that open onto a stairway that accompany you into the lake. Around it, like curtains adorning the edges of your home, an unmissable variety of trees, plants and flowers, a secret, unimaginable garden, that can’t even be fathomed from the gate outside.

In the spring, frogs come to mate in the lake’s waters. And the sound of them mating inhabits the enchanted nights. As the days progress, the water lilies bloom exposing their pink flowers and the lake’s mirror becomes surprising, with big-mouthed fish jumping to eat mosquitoes, dragonflies filling the air and the mallards forming families, with ducklings swimming among the plants. In the evening, from time to time, you can even see herons resting on the lake to fish and rest. A magical place where nature makes us feel part of a whole and the houses, with their elegant furnishings, are precious stones set in the landscape. And where, outside, not far away, the worldly life of Lake Maggiore is still alive.

The Neighbourhood

Located within the beautiful natural area of Veruno, province of Novara in the Piemonte region in Lake Maggiore, a 20 minute walk away from the town center, while the quaint town of Arona (9 km) is a mere 13 minute drive. Artisan shops, delicious restaurants and stunning views are within easy reach.

Getting Around

Busto Arsizio Nord is 37 km from the villa, while Monastero di Torba is 39 km away. Milan Malpensa Airport is 23 km from the property.

Other Things to Note

Villa Padiglione is the lake’s other soul, leaning against a stairway that gently descends into the water, amidst vases and stone balls that adorn its edges. A grand hall, frescoed with the colours of perpetual summer, is set between magnificent French windows looking out onto the patio and with its back covered by a warm and welcoming fireplace. The rooms, with sloping ceilings and a large library, make it an elegant refuge where one can enjoy the spectacle of the fruit trees, flowers and statues that envelop the house like a gentle protection.

The pavilion consists of a marvellous frescoed living room with a fireplace and windows opening onto the patio in front of the lake where you can sit and watch the lotus flowers, water lilies and multicoloured ducks and where you can enjoy lunches and dinners with the cypresses, as gentle sentinels. Two rooms with dormer windows, coloured with soft shades and warm woods, each have a simple, light bathroom, with washbasins set in front of large windows framing flowers and statues.

Breakfast is included in the rate and offers: hot drinks (tea, coffee, cappuccino, etc.), fresh orange juice or fresh cold pressed juice, homemade croissants, fresh bread, local jams, local honey, fruit, yogurt, homemade granola, organic cereals.
